Half-Life 2 Substance installer v2.1 This mod harks back to a bygone age, when innovation with first person shooters was king. Games like Thief, Requiem or Shogo would explore new approaches to the shooter genre. Substance sought to merge the different playstyles into a precursor to the Crysis suit. Each of the HEV Suit Modes comes with its own weapons and abilities, like energy shields or cloaking.

Just like multiplayer classes, which can be switched on the fly and share one gigantic inventory. Newly available in this version, is the VR Missions map pack: as Substance used to be limited to the vanilla and remastered campaigns, it can now be played in over a hundred Half-Life 2 classic maps such as Strider Mountain, The Citizen, Rock 24, Riot Act and Mistake of Pythagoras! Few issues I noticed compared to Old Substance (I understand some of these might not be fixable) HEV modes might not have different armor protection values anymore.
I know the super throw when in assault mode is still there though. Stealth mode lacks the agility it once had. You used to have a double jump, a glide, etc. HEV mode lacks the infrared flashlight to set people on fire, and I THINK his shotgun used to set enemies on fire, but I think that function was moved to Raiden or Liquid?
Can't remember. Liquid/Assault's beserker move (switch to super strong punches) doesn't seem to drain energy. I don't remember if it did in old substance though. Raiden's XM8 has a ridiculously large magazine, several hundred, no idea if it's intentional but it ends up sapping minigun ammo I think. Still a very fun mod, just as fun as I remember, and I'm glad it's working again. Just curious if those things can be fixed. Also, I'd like to see if some of the weapons can be changed around a little.
Maybe move the crossbow to HEV and replace Snakes Xbow with a PSG-1? Or have it replace the I-rifle? It's weird because both Gorden/HEV and Raiden/Ripper share the I-rifle, so by removing the I-rifle from Gordon, replacing it with Snake's Xbow, and giving Snake the PSG-1 makes the I-rifle unique to Raiden/Ripper, HEV mode get's a weapon that feels like it belongs more to it, and Snake gets a proper sniping weapon that was used in MGS1/2. Likewise, maybe something to make the RPG's feel more unique? I dunno how hard this would be to code, especially on SDK 2006, but a remote control missile (camera guided) for Snake would fit better.
Maybe replace Big Boss's AWP with Smod's SVD? Was a weapon he actually used in MGS3. Overall though I'm very happy this mod is back.
IMHO this mod was the biggest loss when all the mods broke with steampipe. Highest Rated (4 agree) Back in the golden days of hl2 modding, this was something I played multiple times, and looking back at it, I sincerely wish I could go back for more:( The new additions to the hl2 campaign struck me with surprise and awe and the dozens of new weapons made the action tight and refreshing, with new additional monsters and player abilities to decimate them with. It's a shame this only partially works with mod fixes following the may 2010 update.
