Many folks opine that any serial number above 7 million is 'safe'.
My point is that the radio itself doesn't have a serial number. The serial number is on the bottom half of the cabinet allowing for substitution whenever monetarily necessary.
I purchased a 940 many years ago. It was supposed to be a late model blah, blah, blah.Over the years I have come to learn it is a much, much earlier version than the seller of the radio claimed it to be.
This can be established in many ways. The seller had three different 940's and simply swapped the bottom cover to make the radio appear newer than it actually is (late serial number). To me this is a petty BS kind of thing to do. The older radios are every bit as good as the newer versions after all of the mods are installed they're the same. I'm not big on modern day equipment to begin with but it would seem like the serial number should be on the 'radio' instead of the radio cover. Too convenient for folks who are less than honest.
